How to Check Whether iCloud Photos Is Enabled

The quickest check is the Photos setting for the Apple Account currently signed in on each device. An enabled switch shows that the device is configured to sync with iCloud Photos; it does not prove that every local item has finished uploading or that a separate backup exists.
Check on iPhone or iPad
Open Settings, select your Apple Account, choose iCloud, then Photos. Confirm that sync for this device is enabled. Apple changes labels between operating-system releases, so treat the current on-screen label as authoritative. Then open Photos and inspect the library status. A paused or updating message means configuration and completion are different questions.
Check on Mac
Open Photos, then its settings, and inspect the iCloud pane. Also verify that this is the Mac System Photo Library; Apple notes that only the System Photo Library stays current with iCloud Photos. Check the account identity before comparing libraries across devices.
Check on Windows
Open iCloud for Windows and inspect the Photos feature for the signed-in Apple Account. Windows can download or expose synced content differently from Apple devices, so do not infer loss from a missing local file until account, feature state, and pending downloads have been checked.
What iCloud.com proves
Seeing an item at iCloud.com/photos confirms that it is currently available in that iCloud Photos library. It does not prove that every device finished uploading, that deleted items remain recoverable, or that an independent offline copy exists.
Interpret the status
“Syncing,” “Updating,” or a paused state means the process is incomplete or temporarily stopped. Keep the device powered and connected as appropriate, confirm storage and network conditions, and avoid deleting or resetting the device while investigating missing photos.
Verify account consistency
Compare the Apple Account on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Windows and iCloud.com. Two devices signed into different accounts can each appear correctly configured while showing different libraries.
Do not confuse sync with backup
iCloud Photos keeps a library current across devices. Apple explains that information already synced to iCloud is generally not duplicated in the daily device backup. For the protection difference and deletion implications, read the companion guide, “iCloud Backup vs iCloud Photos.”
